Persian Rugs, Montana, 1977

Long before Piedmont Rugs existed, a University of Montana anthropology seminar undertook a rare piece of rug scholarship: a documented, tribe-by-tribe study of Persian and tribal weaving, exhibited at the Missoula Museum of the Arts in the spring of 1977. It’s the kind of primary-source material our own research draws on — and the foundation of the archive we’re building alongside the collection.

The full archive — digitized catalog pages, research notes, and source material from the 1977 exhibition — is still being organized for publication here. Check back after launch, or return to the homepage in the meantime.
